Firm Innovation: Kauffman Growth Entrepreneurship Index

Entrepreneurship is a significant source of firm innovation, and those whose innovations are most significant tend to experience the greatest growth. This metric draws on a growth entrepreneurship index developed by the Kauffman Foundation, which examines firm innovation in each metro in three ways: (1) the rate of startup growth; (2) the share of startups that reach 50 or more employee within 10 years; and (3) the share of firms overall — not just startups — growing faster than 20 percent annually.
